Slips, Trips and Falls Technical Committee (STF TC) of the International Ergonomics Association, invited the Slip Resistance Group of Spain (SRGS) to host Slips, Trips and Falls 2020 Conference. in Madrid.
A space open to scientific and real opinions for the purpose of an open debate of knowledge.

The IEA STF TC has held many conferences in Europe and America in the years between the triennial IEA Congresses, for example the Slips, Trips and Falls 2016 Conference in London and the Slips, Trips and Falls 2017 Conference in Toronto. This year the IEA Congress will be held in Florence, 26-30 August, and in 2021 the IEA Congress will be held in Canada. I expect the location and date to be announced at the Congress in Florence. At this stage I am hoping that we will be able to organise a 2019 Conference in the USA.
Each of our past conferences has been independently run by the host body. The host organisation has been able to choose its own theme and focus. In this way, they can address the important local issues. At the same time, there is an expectation that the diverse membership of the STF fraternity might respond to the call for papers with topics that are relevant to their specific interests. For instance, in Toronto the papers were grouped into the following sessions:
Demographic Risk Factors of Falls
· Characterizing Falls in Public Environments
· Current Issues in Tribometer Use and Validity
· Preventing Falls in Winter
· Assessing Environmental Risk of Slips and Falls
· Preventing Falls in Bathrooms and Other Wet Environments
· Considerations of Flooring, Surfaces, and Footwear in Fall Prevention
· Innovations in the Management of Falls in Advanced Dementia
· Preventing Falls in the Workplace
· Pushing the New Boundaries of Slip and Fall Investigations
· Fall Simulation to Improve Safety
At the 2015 Congress in Melbourne, there was a focus on preventing falls in hospitals and aged care facilities. At the 2013 conference in Tokyo, there was a focus on falls from heights; falls on stairs; and keynote addresses on Occupational Slips Trips and Falls Prevention from various international perspectives. It is quite probable that our 2022 conference will again be held in Japan.

At the meeting of 03-19-2017, the Board of Directors of the SRGS decided to approve the proposal to hold the International Conference "Slips, Trips and Falls 2020" in Madrid, proposed by Richard Bowman.
Shortly, different topics will be communicated through this page and our working group-Technical Committee will develop the program of the International Conference "Slips, Trips and Falls 2020" in Madrid.
The election of Spain as organizer of this International Conference is an opportunity for all the agents involved in the prevention of falls.
